Professor for Sociology of Work

Heather Hofmeister is Full Professor for the Sociology of Work at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt and a co-director of the Center for Leadership and Behavior in Organizations (CLBO). She served as Vice-Rector of Human Resources Management and Development at RWTH Aachen University between 2008 and 2011 as the first woman in the Rectorate in the history of that university. Between 2007 and 2011 she held a professorship of Sociology with the specialty in Gender and Life Course Research at RWTH Aachen University.
She obtained her Ph.D. from Cornell University (New York, USA) in 2002 and has also taught and researched at Ithaca College, Bielefeld University, and Bamberg University. She is on the Board of Trustees of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and the editorial board of the journal Research in the Sociology of Work, and has served on the Advisory Council of the Hertie Foundation Work and Family Division and as a Board member of the University Council at the Otto-Friederich-University in Bamberg, German and the Technical University of Munich Institute for Advanced Studies (TUM-IAS).
Hofmeister is also a graduate of Harvard University's Institute for Educational Management in Cambridge, MA (USA), the CTI Coaches Training Institute in London, UK, and has received professional trainings at the Deutsche Hochschulverband, vocal coaching, and online Seminar training at Neuland Partners.
Hofmeister speaks and writes extensively on work, family, gender, leadership, careers, and science with a special focus on women in male-dominated environments and in international comparisons in the sociology of work, life course and gender. She sets a priority on applying research into policy and practice.
