Mahmoud Farag is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of
Political Science, Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. He
previously held positions or undertook research visits at Humboldt
University of Berlin, the University of Zurich and the University of
Geneva. Mahmoud received his doctorate (Dr. phil., summa cum laude)
in political science from Humboldt University of Berlin in 2021.
He is broadly interested in comparative politics with a focus on
democratization and authoritarianism, cleavage politics, civil
society and accountability, and Middle Eastern politics.
Mahmoud's research has been published in Government and
Opposition, European Political Science, Mediterranean
Politics, Stanford Social Innovation Review and the German
Journal of Comparative Politics (Zeitschrift für
Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft) in addition to a number of
policy outlets.
Before shifting to academia, for over a decade, he consulted for and
worked at international civil society organizations including
Transparency International, CARE International, the International
Civil Society Centre among others on issues related to good
governance and accountability.
