Admission of Study Records

Recognition of learning outcomes achieved abroad

The recognition of learning outcomes achieved abroad is the responsibility of the Examination Committee of the respective degree programme. In principle, all learning outcomes are recognised that are equivalent with regard to the subject, the focus area, the modules and the scale of the achievements.

Please consult the Erasmus+ website for information on the recognition of learning outcomes achieved abroad.

For prior recognition of learning outcomes achieved abroad, please use the form "Advance recognition of achievments during the semester abroad" and submit it by email to the Examination Office.

You can find the document in the downloadcenter under your field of study.

Recognition of coursework and/or examinations

Students from related degree programmes and/or from other universities who would like to study Sociology or Political Science can present their previous coursework and/or examination achievements to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences for recognition.

You can find the form “Application for the Recognition of Coursework and Examinations" in the downloadcenter under your field of study.

The Examination Office then enters the recognised learning outcomes/academic achievements in the QIS/LSF portal (viewable under “Prüfungsverwaltung" -> “Notenspiegel" (Exam administration -> Transcript of records) and you can see there which ones have been recognised.

Applying for a higher subject-specific semester / change of university

If you are transferring to Goethe University Frankfurt from another university and would like to study the bachelor's degree programmes in Political Science or Sociology here, you must proceed as follows:

  1. Please submit an application for the recognition of semesters by presenting your transcript of records/ overview of academic achievements to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences. An informal letter is sufficient. You will be admitted to a higher subject-specific semester on the basis of your previous achievements.
  2. Please apply online within the corresponding deadline for the subject-specific semester to which you have been assigned.
  3. After you have enrolled, you can submit an "Application for the Recognition" to the Examination Office. A separate application must be submitted for each academic achievement to be recognised. The Examination Office then enters the recognised achievements in the QIS/LSF portal (viewable under “Prüfungsverwaltung" -> “Notenspiegel" (Exam administration -> Transcript of records) and you can see there which ones have been recognised. You can find the document in the downloadcenter under your field of study.

You can find here further information from the Student Services Centre on how to apply for a higher subject-specific semester.

Applying for the recognition of internships

If you have completed an internship before starting university, you can apply to the Examination Committee for it to be recognised. This requires an informal application for recognition, stating the reasons why the internship was undertaken outside the degree programme.

Information on internships and the requirements for the Internship Report as well as the module sheet can be found in the  downloadcenter under your field of study.
