First Semester Information

At the beginning of each winter semester, the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology (KAEE) offers a welcome and information event for first-semester students of the Science and Technology (STS) program. The date will be announced in the course catalog as well as on this blog.

Please find the presentation for the most recent MA welcome and information event as well as the booklet for first year MA students on the page Downloads and Links.

First Semester Information

The institute uses two main eLearning platforms in teaching: BSCW and OLAT. Our cooperation partners in Sociology and Geography may use additional platforms. If you take part in a seminar, you will be given access to the platform used for the seminar by the lecturers. If you are new to the system and not yet registered, you will receive an invitation by email with the necessary registration instructions and information.

First Semester Information

When you are accepted to the MA program, you will first receive an email with a welcome note by the Institute. Please note: This is not the official admission letter! You will receive an official admission letter by the university's student services with more information regarding next steps. If you have further questions regarding the enrollment, please contact the student services: sli@uni-frankfurt.de

First Semester Information

After the enrolment, the university will send you all your student documents including the login information to your student mailaccount (HRZ login) and your Goethe Card. This will give you a ticket for public transport (S-Bahn, bus, etc.) in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area.

E-mail communication with the Institute – and with Goethe University in general – will be exclusively via your university email address. Private email addresses are not accepted. The university addresses usually consist of numbers and a prefixed "s", e.g. s0123456@stud.uni-frankfurt.de. Please replace this sequence of numbers and letters with your name: YourName@stud.uni-frankfurt.de. You will have to make tis substitution yourself. Here's how:

  1. Log in to the webmail server, Goethe University's email service, with your HRZ account.
  2. Click on “Weitere" in the top menu bar.
  3. Click on “Alias-Adressee" under the user settings.
  4. Follow the instructions and replace the sequence of numbers and letters with your name.

Please do not forward your university email address to your private email address because private providers sometimes do not deliver university email and you may not receive important information. Please check your university email account regularly. For more information, please visit the Goethe University IT Services page.
