​Changed Opening Hours

On wednesday, 28th of June, MakeLab will stay closed.

Maker Cafe - July 10th - from 4 p.m.

The Maker Café will take place again on Monday, July 10th. As always, you are invited to stop by for a coffee or tea, exchange ideas with other students and get to know each other. We will also prepare a nice accompanying workshop program (tba) for you from the MakeLab team, so stay tuned! We look forward to meeting you!

Who we are

The MakeLab is a student project that arose from the idea of providing low-threshold access to modern rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, 3D scanning or laser cutting.

While many universities have been running so-called “FabLabs" and “Makerspaces" for a long time, there was unfortunately a gap at Goethe University until the MakeLab was founded in 2016.

We see ourselves less as a service to the university, but rather as an active, self-organized place for learning and creating.
Of course, in addition to the necessary introductions to the devices, we are also at your side with advice, but we want to encourage your own engagement with projects and problem solving wherever possible.

That sounds great !

As an open project, we look forward to everyone who enjoys working

Equipment

So far, we can provide the following equipment in our workshop:

  •  3D scan
    • Infrared Scanner: iPad with Structure Sensor (3DSystems / Occipital)
    • Structured Light Scanner: Scan in a Box FX
  • 3D printing using the FDM process
    • Maximum installation space 305 x 305 x 205 mm, resolution up to 10 microns (0.01 mm Z-axis, 0.0125 mm X / Y-axis)
    • Devices: Raise 3D N2, Flashforge Dreamer, FLSUN V400
  • 3D printing in the SLA process
    • Maximum installation space 128 x 128 x 200 mm, resolution up to 25 micron (0.025 mm Z-axis, 0.13 mm X / Y-axis)
    • Device: XYZprinting Nobel 1.0 A
  • Laser cutter
    • Installation space maximum 500 mm x 300 mm, material height maximum 50 mm
    • Device: Darkly Labs Emblaser 2
  • Soldering workshop
    • Soldering stations, soldering irons and desoldering irons
    • Fume extraction systems
    • Auxiliary items such as third hand, board holder, magnifying lamp, silicone fireproof pads, etc.
    • Training kits
  • Repair workshop with various tools, small parts and measuring equipment, including
    • Multimeter
    • Laboratory power supply
    • continuity tester
    • Precision mechanics and electronics repair (incl. special bits), e.g. for smartphones, laptops and watches
    • Drill and screwdriver
    • Airbrush
  • Workstation
    • with various software for editing and processing the files required for our areas of application

Event Archive

As usual, we will have a stand at the university's own job fair Enter_Zukunft_IT together with the IT department and the Bembelbots. There we will demonstrate some of our devices and give you the opportunity to try out some things yourself.
The Maker Café will take place again on Friday, May 26th. As always, you are invited to stop by for a coffee or tea, exchange ideas with other students and get to know each other. We will also prepare a nice accompanying workshop program (tba) for you from the MakeLab team, so stay tuned! We look forward to meeting you!
The MakeLab invites all interested parties, freshmen and old hands, to open the summer semester 2023 with us with a barbecue together. Feel free to come to the MakeLab from 2 p.m., vegan grilled food and drinks will be provided. In a relaxed atmosphere we would like to talk to you about our plans for the coming semester. We look forward to meeting you!


P.S.: The opening hours for the coming semester are almost certain and will be published here soon. As a little teaser: We will be expanding the offer to include additional opening hours in addition to the old Wednesday date ;)

This time there will be a soldering workshop as part of the Maker Café, where you can try out kits of different levels of difficulty - success you can touch, even without any soldering experience! Not only students of scientific and technical courses should feel addressed!
