Plant Genetics

Our primary research focus is on understanding the molecular mechanisms that control the maintenance of root stem cells, which are crucial for the growth and survival of higher plants. Since roots provide anchorage in the soil and facilitate access to water and nutrients, it is essential to study the fundamental processes that regulate plant development and architecture, especially given the ongoing anthropogenic climate change. Therefore, our team is working to translate insights from fundamental research in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana to the crop Hordeum vulgare (barley), with the aim of deciphering the molecular mechanisms that control root stem cell regulation. By doing so, we want to strengthen plants against adverse climate conditions and ensure food security.
