You can have
learning outcomes achieved abroad recognised by the Examination Office of the
Faculty of Social Sciences. Exceptions to this are credit points that are to be
recognised at another faculty. You have two options for the recognition of
learning outcomes achieved abroad. You can apply for prior recognition by
the Examination Office for your
Learning Agreement before or during your mobility or request recognition of your Transcript of Records after the end of your mobility. We
recommend that you apply for prior recognition because in this way you can be
sure that your learning outcomes achieved abroad will be recognised later.
Yes. When
selecting the courses you would like to attend abroad and have recognised, you
must note the following:
As a rule, you
must attend courses in the same subject that you are studying
in Frankfurt. Exceptions are possible in individual cases for modules
designated accordingly (in part for supplementary or specialisation modules)
and for interdisciplinary degree programmes.
The course
attended must be consistent with the module for which you are
applying for recognition in terms of content. You must especially ensure that
the course suitably covers the knowledge and competences listed in the module
description in the respective Study Regulations.
If the Study
Regulations require proof of learning outcomes achieved in a master's seminar
for completion of a module, a master's seminar must also be completed abroad.
This applies, for example, for the specialisation module in the BA degree
programmes.
The number
of contact hours (= credit hours per week per semester x
duration of the semester) and the required credit points must
roughly correspond to Goethe University's requirements. In general, this is
unproblematic. There are sometimes problems with credit points based on a short
essay only or which are even awarded without any written work abroad at all.
No, an application for prior recognition is not mandatory. However, please note that you must submit an application for prior recognition if you have filled out table B in your Learning Agreement with ECTS. If you do not wish to receive credit for any courses or do not have the application for prior recognition ready in time, please enter "Recognition of the Examination Office pending" or "Waiver of Recognition in Advance" accordingly. Then enter "0" in the ECTS column. Exception: in case of a PDF-based Learning Agreement, you can leave table B empty.
Yes. You can also
submit an application for the recognition of learning outcomes to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences after
your mobility.
Yes. However, we
recommend that you do not submit an application until you can foresee that
there will be no further changes to your choice of courses. You should please
therefore make sure that you choose your courses on the basis of the final
course catalogue.
For your minor
subject, you can also have courses from other degree programmes recognised.
Apart from that, the courses attended must be consistent with the module
descriptions in terms of content. In supplementary or specialisation modules as
well as interdisciplinary degree programmes, the recognition of courses that
are not subject-related is possible in some cases.
This is not
possible for the degree programmes at the Faculty of Social Sciences. However,
if your minor subject includes language courses in its Study Regulations, you
can have these recognised. In this case, please contact the Examination Office
responsible for the respective degree programme.
You can find
information about the conversion of learning outcomes achieved abroad on the Global Office's website. If you have any further questions about conversion after your stay
abroad, please contact the Examination Office of the Faculty of Social
Sciences.
We are happy to
advise you in person. You can find our office hours on the right under Contact.
Please address any questions regarding the recognition of learning outcomes
directly to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
