The Goethe University Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium is available for students of all nationalities at German universities, including Goethe University. It provides support to students whose career so far promises outstanding study results. It is available as of the first semester.

Criteria required at Goethe University: Besides high achievements at school and/or university, requirements include social commitment, for example in clubs or in university politics, in church-run or political organisations, as well as getting involved in the social environment, family or a social institution. Any special obstacles resulting from a student’s family or cultural origin are also taken into consideration.

Goethe University Graduation Scholarship

The graduation scholarship is open to international students currently enrolled at Goethe University, irrespective of their subject area.

No further application rounds are scheduled for 2022. Application deadlines for 2023 are as follows:
January 31, 2023 (for funding periods starting March)
June 30, 2023 (for funding periods starting August)

The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of 6 months and to a maximum amount of €500 per month.

Requirements:

Students who apply for this scholarship must have registered for their final examinations and undertake a Bachelor’s, Master’s or State Exam thesis as evidenced by written confirmation from the respective Prüfungsamt (examination office) (including submission date or probable date of completion of the thesis). Medical students must be in preparation for the second stage of the medical examination.

Starting in 2022 your application can only be handed in via our Scholarship-Online-Application-Tool. On this platform you can fill out your application and upload all necessary documents such as CV, letter of recommendation, transcript of records, etc. Please note that form January 2022 on applications handed in via email will no longer be accepted.

Scholarships for relevant internships

International students of all subject areas enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s or state exam programmes can apply for scholarships for internships specifically oriented towards professional or academic advancement.

Requirements

The application requires a preliminary confirmation by the employer that they will take on the student as an intern or, if applicable, an internship contract; furthermore, a letter of recommendation by a lecturer at Goethe University affirming that the internship in question will advance the applicant’s studies.

Application deadlines are January 31, June 30 and October 31 of any given year.

Scholarship for volunteer work with an international context at Goethe University

The aim of the scholarship is to support international students who actively participate in processes and structures of the Goethe University and who work in the university environment for interests of international students, international prospective students or international alumni.


Requirements:

What does volunteer work at the university with an international context include?

  • Work in a student initiative / student association with an international focus
  • Participation in student councils and departments
  • Participation in political university groups
  • Participation in international learning / working groups
  • Individual volunteer work with a connection to the Goethe-University (e.g. the IST / Internationaler Studientreff of the International Office)
  • Creation of new offers for international students
  • Commitment to promoting / increasing a welcoming culture for international students at the Goethe University
  • Engagement that strengthens the orientation of international first-year students
