Sociological Theory, History of Sociology, and Philosophy of Science
Profile
The research unit coordinates research and teaching in the areas of theory, history, and philosophy of the science of sociology. It cultivates the historical legacy of sociology through the study and editing of central works by selected renowned sociologists, such as Max Weber, Georg Simmel, Ferdinand Tönnies, Werner Sombart, Franz Oppenheimer, and Emil Lederer. Using this as a foundation, it participates in current (scientific and) theoretical discourses on key questions in this field, such as reduction versus emergence, unity of the subject versus multiparadigmatics as well as identity versus interdisciplinarity.
