Time for Teaching (Zeit für Lehre)

Innovations in teaching need time to be developed and evaluated. Based on this, Goethe university offers "Time for Teaching" as a program exclusively targeted at professors. The program is creating timely space for the development of teaching innovations by reducing the teaching load (up to 4 teaching hours per semester).

Teaching innovations can range for example from the development of new courses or redesign of courses to the development of new teaching formats or resources. Especially the ongoing digitalization in teaching and learning requires innovative ideas and formats or the support of specific tools.

Student assistance can be funded with up to 25h/month for one semester.

„Time for teaching“ wants to scaffold the development and the realization of ideas that have the potential to enhance teaching and learning but are hard to address alongside the regular tasks of teaching and research.

To ensure that no teaching is omitted during the development phase, the teaching load can be compensated by teaching assignments.

We offer you broad consulting during the proposal phase as well as during the implementaion of your teaching innovations.

For inquiries, please contact us under hochschuldidaktik@uni-frankfurt.de

The call for winter terms ends at 31.03. and at 15.10. for summer terms.

Target group: Professors of Goethe university

Funding: Time for teaching is funded by the project ELLVIS. Funding includes the compensation of the teaching load by up to 4 hours/week (SWS) by the reimbursment of teaching assignments. Further funding for materials and/or travel costs cannot be imbursed. Projects are funded if they enhance quality and digitalization of teaching and learning , e.g. by the development of

  • elearning or blended learning formats
  • new courses or redesign of courses
  • new teaching formats (e.g. Service Learning, Peer Learning)
  • new assessment formats
  • resources for teaching and learning

We especially welcome innovations aiming at digitalization, internationalization, or practice collaborations in teaching. Based on its strategy for equality and diversity, Goethe university aims at teaching and learning being sensitive to discrimination. Hence projects are welcomed aiming at equal opportunities (e.g. accessibility of teaching, inclusion, counteracting racism, accounting for diverse prior knowledge in teaching etc.)

We do not fund projects that are part of regular teaching obligations as well as projects that lack innovation and or sustainability in their ideas.

Please consider the following parameters, before submitting your proposal:

  • you followed the principles of constructive alignment
  • you have considered questions of diversity
  • your ideas are transmissive for other contexts and/or are sustainable
  • the project’s feasibility is displayed in a detailed schedule

The project addresses innovations in one of the following areas:

  • digitalization
  • practice collaborations
  • internationalization
