Coming from a Southeast Asian background for my bachelors, the master's programme Modern East Asian Studies was the best fit for me. The wide variety of classes in law, politics and economics in South/East Asia (Korea, Japan, Indonesia, etc) allowed me to explore multiple areas and helped broaden my horizon. My favorite courses were about economic and social change in Southeast Asia, Institutional Diversity and Innovation in China and Japan and Advanced Management. For my master's thesis, I had the opportunity to conduct field research (qualitative study) in Indonesia on the topic of “Women's Economic Participation in the Tourism Sector through Information Communication Technology", together with GIZ (German international cooperation for sustainable development). The interdisciplinary approach learned in MEAS equipped me with the necessary skills to complete my thesis and start my career as a professional.

Thanks to my fellow students and professors, MEAS was a valuable experience that helped me grow as a professional and individual. It was overwhelmingly positive and it far outweighed my expectations.
