In exceptional cases foreign students may carry out a semester or a whole academic year at our university, even if a partnership or co-operation is not yet in place.

You will need to liaise with your home university at an early stage and check whether it agrees to a study period abroad and if the curriculum of our university fits to your home curriculum. If you have questions regarding the study programme at our Faculty of Medicine please get in touch with the responsible coordinator of our medical faculty.

Please be advised that visiting students at the Faculty of Medicine at Goethe-University need to prove sufficient German language knowledge. Level B2 is compulsory, though to ensure a successful study period in Frankfurt we would even recommend level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The language certificate needs to be submitted already jointly with the application documents.

For enrollment (matriculation) at Goethe University guest students have to apply via an internet platform of the International Office (IO) of Goethe University.

The IO of Goethe University has the following application deadlines:

Winter semester (time period 1 October - 31 March), application deadline: 15 June
Summer semester (time period 1 April - 30 September), application deadline: 15 December

Attention! The needed web link for application at the internet platform of IO you will receive only after we at the Faculty of Medicine have checked whether you fulfil all requirements. Hence, please submit all required documents at least four weeks prior to the closing date for applications to our medical faculty for the review process.

Application documents (in Germnan or English):

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Transcript of Records
  • Letter of Recommendation from your home university (Office of the Dean of your medical faculty) supporting your studies as a visiting student
  • German language certificate  (at least level B2 according to CEFR)
  • Proof of your sufficient Immunization status (download form)
  • List of subjects you intend to study at our Faculty of Medicine

For the enrollement process you will have to prove your health insurance for the duration of your stay in Germany. Furthermore we suggest to conclude a liability insurance as well.
