Research and teaching in the Arts Faculty (German: Fachbereich Neuere Philologien) cover a wide range of subject areas and courses, listed below.

Courses in “German Studies” and “German for a Teaching Certificate”, divided into:
- “German Literature before 1650”, “German Literature since 1650” and “Teaching German Literature” – courses are taught in the German Department (Institut für Deutsche Literatur und ihre Didaktik)
- Linguistics and German Language Teaching (Sprachwissenschaft und Sprachdidaktik) – courses are taught in the Linguistics Department and the Department of Psycholinguistics and German Language Teaching
- Literature for Children and Young Persons – courses are taught in the Department of Department for Children's and Young Adult Literature Research
