The coordinating university has the main responsibility for the organisation, application process and management of a BIP and receives financial support in the form of OS funds (Organisational Funds). In most cases, it is also the host university.
Timeline of a BIP application as coordinating university:
Funding:
OS funds range from €4,000 to €8,000 depending on the number of participants (minimum of 10 participants). A lump sum is reserved for the Global Office for administrative purposes, while the remaining amount is available to the respective department.
However, it is not permitted to use OS funds to finance mobilities or to increase individual financial support. Mobility participants are supported by the sending institution through Erasmus+ funding. This applies to both students and staff wishing to participate in a BIP.
Please refer to the Requirements section above.
Areas of responsibility:
The department is responsible for the content and organisational implementation of the BIP, including communication with partner universities, concrete planning of teaching content, organisation and implementation of the virtual or physical part of the programme, management of decentralised funding and preparation of study-related documents.
The Global Office can act as an advisory body and provide support in the administration of the BIP, including the provision of funding, the preparation of reporting documents and Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements. The Global Office is also responsible for submitting the application to the DAAD.
Application for the coordination of a BIP::
A BIP is coordinated by a partner university in a European programme country, while Goethe University participates as a partner university and sends mobile students and staff to the BIP. GU participants receive a mobility grant from their home university to support their participation in the programme.
Funding for participating students:
Day 1-14: 79€/day
Day 15-30: 56€/day
Top Up Green Travel: one-off €50 + 1-4 extra days of travel (if applicable)
Top Up Fewer Opportunities: one-off €100 + travel allowance according to distance (first-generation students / students from a non-academic home, working students (450-800€) or students with "Special Needs" (chronic illness, degree of disability >20%, single parent).
Funding for participating teachers::
Participating teaching staff can apply for a Staff Mobility (STA) if they fulfil the requirements. Further information is available here.

Recognition::
Students must have at least 3 ECTS recognised at their home university in order to participate in a BIP. Coordination with the head of the study programme is therefore necessary. Ideally, the BIP should be integrated into the participants' curriculum, whereby the ECTS awarded must be recognised as part of the respective degree programme at Goethe University. This recognition must be agreed in advance with the Erasmus programme representatives and the responsible examination office of the department and recorded in the Online Learning Agreement.
Application for participation in a BIP::
The application must be submitted to the Global Office until the 15th of January of each year for the following academic year using the form below.
