May, 19th: Knights‘ tournament at Ronneburg Castle

The GWC will take you to a medieval reenactment Knights‘ tournament inside the unique and entirely preserved hill castle of Ronneburg (first mentioned in 1231 AD). Besides knightly jousting, sword fights, archery shows and historical music there will be a colourful medieval market.

June, 16th: Excursion to Messel Pit Fossil Site

A definite must see in Hessen not only if you like fossils. This UNESCO world heritage site contains unique fossils from the Eocene dating back 50 million years. The Messel Pit is a disused quarry in an ancient lake bed in which bituminous shale was mined. Together we will have a guided tour around the pit and visit the excellent museum on site.

Come and enjoy some thorough socialising and networking on GWC‘s great annual Summer-Garden-Party for international researchers and scholars in cooperation with the „Foundation for Promotion of international scientific relations“.

The Goethe Welcome Centre (GWC) is the central point of advice and services for international researchers at Goethe University:

  • international professors
  • international post-docs
  • international degree seeking doctoral students
  • international doctoral students with a GU employment contract 

In order to make your relocation preparations, your arrival and stay in Frankfurt as comfortable as possible, the GWC team is ready to support you with information, advice and targeted help regarding all important matters related to your stay in Frankfurt. The GWC cooperates closely with other service facilities at GU as well as the City of Frankfurt. Additionally the GWC regularily offers social and cultural events or excursions for you and your family.

In order to support you the best way possible, we would like to ask you first of all to fill out our online registration form. As soon as you have returned this completed form to the GWC we will email  you some initial information and we will send a small welcome package to the department hosting you.

In the following pages you will find a large amount of information about your stay in Frankfurt. Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
