A new term and a new excting programme of activities for GU's community of international researchers. We are very much looking forward to this winter term full of opportunities to get to know Frankfurt, Hessen and to mix and mingle.

Sat., February 16th: Excursion to Hanau

Hanau is a mid-sized city situated to the east of Frankfurt. Though heavily affected by WWII the birthplace of world famous linguists and fairy tale collectors Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm has some very important historical sites to offer. This excursion will include a visit to the impressive castle of Phillippsruh and its exhibit about the famous brothers.

Welcome to Goethe University!

We are very pleased that you have decided to stay at Goethe University and we hope that you will have a fruitful and enriching time in the vibrant commercial and financial metropolis of Frankfurt.





The Goethe Welcome Centre (GWC) is the central point of advice and services for international researchers at Goethe University:

  • international professors
  • international post-docs
  • international degree seeking doctoral students
  • international doctoral students with a GU employment contract 

In order to make your relocation preparations, your arrival and stay in Frankfurt as comfortable as possible, the GWC team is ready to support you with information, advice and targeted help regarding all important matters related to your stay in Frankfurt. The GWC cooperates closely with other service facilities at GU as well as the City of Frankfurt. Additionally the GWC regularily offers social and cultural events or excursions for you and your family.

In order to support you the best way possible, we would like to ask you first of all to fill out our online registration form. As soon as you have returned this completed form to the GWC we will email  you some initial information and we will send a small welcome package to the department hosting you.

In the following pages you will find a large amount of information about your stay in Frankfurt. Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

International non-degree seeking doctoral students should contact their supervisor, the inviting institute or the International Office. All international incoming students should contact the International Office.
