My emerging work in
this area is defending a hope vision of the possibilities of Anthropocene, one
which is egalitarian, prosperous, sustainable, and cooperative. The productive
capacity of the industrial revolution unleashes enormous potential in the
realization of these values, but also threatens to undermine the natural basis
that makes progress possible. A hopeful, even utopian, vision of the
Anthropocene involves advancing the positive tendencies of the industrial
revolution and controlling its destructive tendencies.
