Forschung
Prof. Dr. Rainer Forst ist für seine Forschung im Bereich der politischen Philosophie und Theorie zu den politischen Grundbegriffen „Gerechtigkeit“, „Toleranz“ und „Demokratie“ 2012 mit dem Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz-Preis der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft ausgezeichnet worden. Die Leibniz-Forschungsgruppe „Transnationale Gerechtigkeit“ ist aus Mitteln dieses Forschungsförderpreises finanziert und am Arbeitsbereich Politische Theorie und Philosophie der Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main angesiedelt.
Die Mitglieder der Forschungsgruppe widmen sich in ihrer Forschung normativen Fragen transnationaler Gerechtigkeit. Dabei gehen sie davon aus, dass soziale bzw. politische Gerechtigkeit im Kern gerechtfertigte, nicht-willkürliche Herrschaft bedeutet. Diesen Bedeutungskern gilt es aufbauend auf der Analyse unterschiedlicher Kämpfe um soziale und politische Gerechtigkeit zu entfalten. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei die Frage nach einer kritischen Konzeption von Gerechtigkeit, die in der Lage ist, derartige Kämpfe auf unterschiedlichsten Ebenen, von der lokalen bis hin zur transnationalen, zu erfassen und ihr transformatorisches Potential aufzuzeigen.
Hierfür untersuchen die Mitglieder der Forschungsgruppe im Austausch mit anderen WissenschaftlerInnen die Verwendungsweisen des Gerechtigkeitsbegriffs in unterschiedlichsten nationalen und transnationalen sozialen Konflikten. So können sie eine hinreichend geerdete Auffassung der Grammatik sozialer bzw. politischer Gerechtigkeit entwickeln, die in der sozialwissenschaftlichen und philosophischen Analyse unterschiedlicher Erfahrungen sozialer bzw. politischer Ungerechtigkeiten wurzelt und der Begründung kritischer Gerechtigkeitsvorstellungen dient. Idealiter deuten solche Vorstellungen bereits darauf hin, welche Möglichkeiten bestehen, existierende Ungerechtigkeiten zu überwinden.
In diesem Themenfeld organisiert die Forschungsgruppe Konferenzen, Vorlesungen sowie Workshops. Dabei kooperiert sie u.a. mit dem Exzellenzcluster „Normative Ordnungen“, der Kolleg-Forschergruppe „Justitia Amplificata“ und dem Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften.
