During my time as a MEAS student, I appreciated the truly international nature of the programme and the diverse student body that brought various cultural perspectives together, creating incredibly interesting and nuanced discussions both inside and outside the classroom. The real strength of the MEAS programme, however, is the multi-disciplinary nature of the programme that enables students to generate insights by looking at issues through different methodological and academic lenses that complement each other, thereby facilitating a better understanding of the underlying processes and institutions that shape East Asia.

At the same time, the flexible structure of the programme empowers students to choose their own topical and methodological focus to follow their interests and the courses most suited to their individual careers. The experiences I gained working together with fellow students as well as the encouragement I received from faculty during my time as a MEAS student ultimately gave me the confidence and ability to pursue a PhD following my graduation.
