The accreditation of study programs at Goethe University is a quality assurance procedure aimed at ensuring high-quality degree programs. In Hesse, courses of study are generally accredited prior to the first day of classes in accordance with § 12 Abs. 2 HHG. Since the university was granted system accreditation, accreditation has been carried out in the form of internal (re)accreditation as part of the establishment or continuation of study programs. Goethe University was granted unconditional system accreditation at the end of March 2016 and is currently in the process of system re-accreditation.

Internal (re)accreditations are closely linked to evaluation procedures so that departments can improve their programs in a continuous process of reflection and discussion. The results of the program evaluation and key figures are presented to the external experts during the internal re-accreditation, and the recommendations of the internal re-accreditations are addressed in the subsequent program evaluation in dialog with students and faculty representatives.
