Documents to be submitted and formal admission requirements

The following documents must be submitted:

University entrance qualification (usually Abitur or comparable qualification entitling the holder to study at a university)

Bachelor's degree certificate or transcript of records with at least 80% of recorded achievements (144 credit points for a degree program with 180 CP, 192 credit points for a degree program with 240 CP) with a list of previous study and examination achievements and an officially reported average grade

The bachelor grade or the average grade of the transcript is included in the overall grade with 70%.

If applicable, list of political science achievements, if political science was not originally studied in the bachelor's degree to the extent of at least 60 CP. Please use this form for this purpose. 

- Letter of motivation with max. 700 words

Please present the following aspects convincingly in form and content:

- personal and professional interest in the Master's program and its individual areas of specialization

- personal goals associated with the Master's program

The letter of motivation will be evaluated by the selection committee and 30% will be included in the overall grade.

- Proof of English language skills

English language skills can be proven by:

- Proof of a level III UNIcert certificate,

- Proof of an internet-based TOEFL test iBT, score of at least 95,

- Proof of an IELTS test, score of at least 7.0,

- proof of a TOEIC test, score of at least 945 points

- a bachelor's degree completed entirely in English

- Other evidence recognized as equivalent by the Examination Committee (if you are unsure whether your evidence is considered comparable, please contact studienfachberatung.fb03@soz.uni-frankfurt.de)

Subject-specific entry requirements

The professional entry requirement for this program is a completed bachelor's degree in political science or a related or comparable degree program.

Related or comparable courses of study are those in which political science coursework and examinations (especially political science fundamentals and subfields as well as methods) amounting to at least 60 credit points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) have been acquired.

Students who have originally studied political science in their Bachelor's degree with at least 60 credit points as their major or minor subject can apply in any case and fulfill the content requirements.

Students who have not studied political science to the extent of at least 60 credit points in their Bachelor's degree will be examined individually by the selection committee. In this case, the selection committee decides on the comparability of the achievements. All students who have not originally studied Political Science as a major or minor subject with at least 60 CP must submit the following formHere you have the opportunity to state yourself which achievements you consider to be political science-related and comparable.

Application for the summer semester

Applications for the summer semester are only possible for the higher semester. Applications for the first semester are only possible for the winter semester. 

Please note that the course of studies in the higher semester is admission restricted, i.e. an admission is only possible if there is a place available in the corresponding semester. This information is only available after completion of the re-registration for the study program!!!

The application for a higher semester is not done via uni-assist for the summer semester, but directly via the faculty. You can send the application directly as a pdf document to studienfachberatung.fb03@soz.uni-frankfurt.de by 15.01.

Please include the following documents with your application:

Completed application form

- University entrance qualification (usually Abitur or comparable qualification entitling the holder to study at a university)

Bachelor's degree and Transcript of Records (applications for the higher semester are only possible with a fully completed Bachelor's degree!!!)

- Proof of suitable MA achievements on a Transcript of Records or comparable official documents. (without suitable MA achievements, no application to the higher semester is possible).

- If applicable, list of political science achievements with the following form, if political science was not originally studied in the bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60 CP.

- Letter of motivation according to the above criteria.

- Proof of English language skills according to the above criteria.

Please note that you cannot submit any application documents later. The date of receipt by e-mail is decisive. All documents submitted after 15.01. can generally no longer be considered. Exception: Proof of MA performance may be submitted subsequently until 28.02.
