Awards: ​Hessian University Prize for Excellence in Teaching

The Hessen State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts awards the Hessian University Prize for Excellence in Teaching. The prize is awarded for outstanding and innovative achievements in teaching, examination, supervision and mentoring at Hessian universities. It is worth a total of 115,000 €.

The quality of teaching is a crucial criterion of excellence for top universities and is therefore a strategic objective of quality management at universities. The award seeks to highlight the outstanding importance of teaching at universities for Early Career Researchers. Furthermore it is designed to create an incentive for the commitment to teaching and its promotion beyond one's own sphere of activity.

Goethe University can submit a total of five proposals. An internal committee decides on the selection of proposals.

2020 Competition

A complete proposal includes

  • the application form (please note that the included testimonial should not be longer than 3 pages in Arial font, font size 11 points, line spacing 1.0 lines);
  • significant annexes with a maximum of 4 pages;
  • if possible, a meaningful, short evaluation (max. 4 pages).

The internal application deadline was 10th June 2019.

The application documents are to be sent in electronic form only to the Vice President responsible for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Roger Erb.

Announcement of the 2021 competition is postponed to autumn 2020

Due to the current situation, the Hessian State Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts has postponed the announcement of the Hessian University Award for Excellence in Teaching 2021 competition to autumn 2020. It is expected to be published at the beginning of the 2020/2021 winter semester.
