About the Long Night

Since 2010, the "Long Night Against Procrastination" (Lange Nacht der aufgeschobenen Hausarbeiten, or LNDAH, in German) has been held every year on the first Thursday in March, and is now organized by writing centers worldwide. The Schreibzentrum at Goethe University Frankfurt, in cooperation with the Library Center for the Humanities (BZG), hosts this event every year, and every year much writing is completed and fun is had!

Around 200 students take part each year, writing from 8 p.m. until dawn in the midst of other motivated writers.

We offer short workshops on all aspects of academic writing and reading; in previous years, the topics have included how to start a writing project, how to develop a question, time management, reading strategies, writing convincing arguments, German academic writing for second language students, and revision strategies. In addition, Schreibzentrum Peer Tutors offer individual writing consultations and text feedback. Complementing the academic program are relaxing activities like yoga, writing rooms with a concentrated working atmosphere, a buffet, and, of course, lots of coffee.

The Long Night is not only for first-year students or self-professed procrastinators; we invite all students to attend, regardless of your level of experience with writing or the status of your writing project. The Long Night is a space for students to make progress on current papers and to reflect on and develop their reading and writing skills. In other words, there's something at this event for everyone!
