This website gives you an initial overview of the numerous possibilities for planning a stay abroad while studying and the opportunities that a study or internship abroad offers you. Such a stay can take place trough the ERASMUS program of the European Union, or be organized in other ways. If you decide to stay abroad with ERASMUS, you will find an overview of your entitlements and rights as well as your obligations towards the program in the ERASMUS student charter. The International Department of the faculty supports in a variety of ways the planning of your stay and has put together a lot of information on the subject on the following pages
Why is a stay abroad important during your studies?
The Faculty of Social Sciences has set itself the goal of promoting the mobility of its students. Study-related stays abroad aim at different dimensions of your competence expansion: professional competence, language competence and intercultural competence. These can have a positive effect on your individual course of study and your employment prospects:
- Professional competence: At a foreign partner university, study content can be examined from a different academic perspective. This enables students to broaden their professional horizons.
- Language skills: Abroad, both your studies and everyday life usually have to be mastered in a different language. Students learn new languages or consolidate existing language skills.
- Intercultural competence: Students experience a change of perspective abroad. You will work in an international environment and get to know the culture, politics and society of your host country.
What possibilities are there to go abroad?
The paths that can take you abroad for a limited time during your studies are very diverse! Would you like to study abroad? This is possible both through the ERASMUS program of the European Union and through the direct exchange programs of Goethe University. You can also apply as a self-organized freemover at universities around the world. Would you like to use your stay abroad to gain practical work experience? Then an internship abroad could be the right thing for you! Do you only want to spend a few weeks abroad during the semester break? You can get to know another country in a short period of time trough summer / winter schools and study trips and continue your education at the same time!
By the way: there are also opportunities for doctoral students, lecturers, and university staff to apply for funded stays abroad.
