Curriculum Vitae (Short Version)

Birgit Becker, born 1978 in Curitiba (Brasil), is a Professor of Sociology with a focus on Empirical Educational Research at the Institute of Sociology, Department of Social Sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt. She is member of the Center for Research on Individual Development and Adaptive Education of Children at Risk (IDeA) and Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education (DIPF).

Birgit Becker studied social sciences at the University of Mannheim (diploma in social sciences in 2003). She worked as research assistant at the Chair of Prof. Dr. Hartmut Esser (University of Mannheim) and at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES). After receiving her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Mannheim in 2009, she worked as a postdoc fellow at the MZES and as survey consultant at GESIS.

Since 2011 Birgit Becker is assistant professor (W1), since 2014 associate professor (W2), and since 2020 full professor at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Her research interests include educational inequality and educational decisions, early education and socialization, migration and integration, and digital inequality.
