Studies in Frankfurt
What are the preconditions I need to fulfil if I want to do regular studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Goethe-University?
If you apply for direct studies (degree courses which are held in German) you have to present language certificates at the completed level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
However the completed level B1 will allow you to apply for the Study preparing language course (DSH-Vorbereitungskurs). You will find further information about DSH on the web site of the Internationales Studien- und Sprachenzentrums (ISZ).
If you do not have any knowledge of the German language you are not entitled to apply for a language course at Goethe-University, but it is your individual responsibility to complete level B1 (e.g. by self-studies or through a language course at a language institute in Germany or in your home country).
If your secondary school leaving certificate does not entitle you to study at a German university, you will need to proof that you comply with the language, professional and methodical pre-conditions for studying at a higher institution in Germany. Furthermore the completed language level B1 is compulsory. The Studienkolleg offers preparatory courses for higher education. You will find further information on the website of the Internationales Studien- und Sprachenzentrums (ISZ).
International applicants from outside the European Union have to pass an entry test (information only available in German: medizinischer Studierfähigkeitstest). This test is imperative if you want to carry out your studies at our Faculty of Medicine. It comprises basic knowledge and competences in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Terminology which are necessary for studies in Medicine.
For the entry test we offer the preparatory M course (Medizin-Propädeutikum) at the “Internationales Studienzentrum” which is not mandatory but recommendable to pass the test with a high rank, since only the best candidates of the test will get a seat in ranking order.
The M course requires also an entry test (information only available in German: Aufnahmetest) as we have only a limited number of 38 seats. You will find examples of examination questions for the entry test of the M course under “Prüfungsbeispiele” for the different subjects at the right column.
Is it possible to study during one or two semesters at the Faculty of Medicine at Goethe-University even if there is no co-operation agreement in place between both universities?
In exceptional cases students may carry out a semester or a whole academic year at our university, even if a partnership or co-operation is not yet in place.
You will need to liaise with your home university at an early stage and check whether it agrees to a study period abroad and if the curriculum of our university fits to your curriculum. If you have questions regarding the study programme at our Faculty of Medicine please get in touch with the responsible co-ordinator at the Faculty of Medicine, Mr. Barta.
Please be advised that for an Erasmus+ student mobility exchange with the Faculty of Medicine at the Goethe-university level B2 is compulsory, though to ensure a successful study period in Frankfurt we would even recommend level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
In fact it can normally not be realized due to capacity reasons. In the last years no single place was given to students who applied for a higher semester.
The semester fee amounts to some 350 EUR. Our winter semester starts on 1 October and ends on 31 March, out summer semester lasts from 1 April to 30 September respectively.
