What are the preconditions I need to fulfil if I want to do regular (degree seeking) studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Goethe-University?

If you apply for direct studies (degree courses which are held in German) you have to present language certificates at the completed level DSH-3. Following certificates are acceptable:DSH-3: tests registered at the Conference of University Rectors (HRK)

  • TestDaF: all test results with TDN 5
  • Goethe certificate C2: at least with grade "gut"
  • Feststellungsprüfung (Studienkolleg): at least with grade "gut" in examination part "Deutsch"

However the completed level B1 will allow you to apply for the Study preparing language course (DSH-Vorbereitungskurs). You will find further information about DSH on the web site of the Internationales Studien- und Sprachenzentrums (ISZ)

You are not entitled to apply for a language course at Goethe-University if you do not have any knowledge of the German language, but it is your individual responsibility to complete level B1 (e.g. by self-studies or through a language course at a language institute in Germany or in your home country).

If your secondary school leaving certificate does not entitle you to study at a German university, you will need to proof that you comply with the language, professional and methodical pre-conditions for studying at a higher institution in Germany. Furthermore the completed language level B1 is compulsory. The Studienkolleg offers preparatory courses for higher education. You will find further information on the website of the Internationales Studien- und Sprachenzentrums (ISZ).

How can I get prepared in my home country form my studies at Goethe-University?

Since you have to present language certificates at the completed level DSH-3 in order to study as a regular degree seeking student at Goethe-University, you should learn respectively improve your German language skills as far as possible. If you have completed level B1 you are entitled to apply for the Study preparing language course (DSH-Vorbereitungskurs). You will find further information about DSH on the web site of the Internationales Studien- und Sprachenzentrums (ISZ)

Is it possible to step into at a higher semester if I have already started with my medical studies abroad?

In fact it can normally not be realized due to capacity reasons. In the last years no single place was given to students who applied for a higher semester.

Is it possible to study during one or two semesters as guest student at the Faculty of Medicine at Goethe-University even if there is no co-operation agreement in place between my home university and Goethe University?

In exceptional cases students may carry out a semester or a whole academic year at our university, even if a partnership or co-operation is not yet in place.

You will need to liaise with your home university at an early stage and check whether it agrees to a study period abroad and if the curriculum of our university fits to your curriculum. If you have questions regarding the study programme at our Faculty of Medicine please get in touch with the responsible co-ordinator at the Faculty of Medicine, Mr. Barta.

Please be advised that for an Erasmus+ student mobility exchange with the Faculty of Medicine at the Goethe-university level B2 is compulsory, though to ensure a successful study period in Frankfurt we would even recommend level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

How much do I need to pay for enrolment?

The semester fee amounts to some 350 EUR. Our winter semester starts on 1 October and ends on 31 March, out summer semester lasts from 1 April to 30 September respectively.
