Master of Arts (M.A.)

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, currently offers three Master of Arts (M.A.) programmes in political science and two M.A. programmes in sociology with various areas of specialisation.

The Masters programme in “Political Science” offered by the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt am Main, provides in-depth academic knowledge across the full spectrum of political science. The Institute of Political Science is one of the largest in Germany and is thus able to provide an extensive range of courses. As part of the Frankfurt tradition of a Faculty of “Social Sciences”, the M.A. Political Science teaches the basic academic principles required to work independently, to apply scientific methods and to reflect critically on social contexts.

Thanks to cooperation between two universities and a research institution, the Masters programme “International Studies/Peace and Conflict Research” is able to offer a wide range of subjects. In cooperation with the Technische Universität Darmstadt and the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), an innovative Masters programme is offered which includes content around the interface of peace and conflict research, international relations, political theory and philosophy.

With the Masters programme “Political Theory”, the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and the Technische Universität Darmstadt established the first degree of this kind in Germany in the winter semester 2007/08. Students attend courses at and receive mentoring from both universities, and are awarded a joint degree.
