Application Process

  1. Documents (original school/university certificates and language certificates) have to be translated (in English or German) and notarized by officially certified institutions (i.e. City Hall or Citizen’s registration office).
In case of missing documents (either lost or inaccessible), successful participation in the TestAS for refugees can provide access to a university. For the TestAS, additional test dates and test centers are offered in Germany (see www.testas.de). For more information about the procedure please click here.

  2. Inform yourself starting in April/November about the application process by coming to one of our information events (volunteers are welcome to come as well.) There, you will be informed about the program elements, the application process and alternative education options. Registration for the information events will be possible shortly by clicking on the dates in the right column.
Please note that attending one of the information events is a compulsory prerequisite for applying for the AWP and for visiting our office hours.

  3. Apply online via uni-assist at https://my.uni-assist.de/. If you need help, you may come to the office hours (Tuesday 9 am - 12 pm, Wednesday 1 – 4 pm, in Room 101 in the Hörsaalgebäude on Campus Bockenheim). A detailed tutorial for applying via uni-assist can be found here.
Please note that the cost-free application for refugees is no longer available. This means, you have to pay for the uni-assist application yourself (usually 75€). The AWP refunds the application fee for all formally correct and complete applications. You have to request the refund with the AWP.
Important: If you have applied for the AWP or a different study programme at Goethe-Univeristy before, please contact the AWP team before applying again. it may not be necessary to do so.

  4. By 12th of January (summer term)/12th of August (winter term) at the latest, you need to have completed your online application and to have uploaded all required documents on the online portal uni-assist. By the same date, you must also have sent the notarized copies with your signed application form via post to uni-assist in Berlin. All necessary documents have to arrive at uni-assist until January 15th/August 15th.

  5. If your application is successful, you may be invited to the TestAS for refugees.

  6. Selected applicants will be invited to a German placement test (mid March/September).

  7. You will be notified whether you can be admitted to the AWP by 31st of March/30th of September.

Please note that attending one of the information events is a compulsory prerequisite for applying for the AWP and for visiting our office hours.
