Activities

From modest beginnings in 1997, membership of the Alumni Association soon expanded. In early 1999, on the initiative of the Association’s President, a new executive committee was elected with members drawn from a diverse range of legal jobs. Efforts – in particular by executive committee members – to target former students of the Faculty quickly led to a significant increase in membership numbers.

The Association is one of the co-organisers of the graduation celebrations held every semester since 1997. A member of the executive committee, usually the President, introduces new graduates to the association and its work. This has proven a successful route to attract further members.

The Association has provided financial support to the following projects in the Law Faculty:

Florence scholarships

The Association awards two or three scholarships annually, each worth €800, to support individuals attending the Academy of European Law summer schools held at the European University Institute in Florence. The scholarship covers the course fees and a contribution towards travel costs.

Moot court projects

The Association has for many years supported various moot court projects taking place in the Faculty. These include participation in the Willem C. Vis Commercial Arbitration Moot Court and the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitions.

Library resources

The Association has been instrumental in the purchase of books and journals in the areas of European law, media law, administrative law, procedural law, labour law and, especially, for the option in the internationalisation of law.
