Exchange program with partner universities in Canada

University of Toronto - Concordia University - Saint Mary's University

Students of Goethe University may apply for a study abroad semester at one of the partner universities in Canada. Tuition fees at the Canadian partner universities will be waived to exchange students. All other expenses (e.g. health insurance, travel costs, housing etc.) will have to be paid by the students. During the academic year 2021/22 costs for room and board (incl. meal plans) were about 8.000 C $. Proof of this amount will have to be submitted for the visa application. Financial support (website in German only) may be available for the study abroad period – please check carefully whether you are eligible to apply.

Graduate and undergraduate students of almost all majors may apply for one semester at one of the campusses at the University of TorontoSt. George Campus (restrictions see here), Scarborough Campus (restrictions see here) or Mississauga Campus (restrictions see here). Students of Law, Education, Sports, Dentistry and medicine may apply, however may only study related subjects at the University of Toronto. You will find further restrictions here.

Graduate and undergraduate students of the humanities, social studies, modern languages and business and economics may apply to spend a semester at Saint Mary's University.

Up to four students may study at Concordia University in Montreal for 1-2 semester(s) (fall semester: Sept.-Dec. and/or winter semester: Jan.-April/May) (graduate/undergraduate; all majors (see restrictions; please also note the pre-requisites). No places will be offered at Concordia in 2022/23. 

Application requirements:

  • Applicants must at least be in their 2nd semester (BA) at the time of application, MA students may apply during their 1st semester
  • Good academic standing
  • Good knowledge of current and historic political and cultural affairs of Canada and Germany
  • Language requirements:
    University of Toronto: undergraduate: TOEFL: overall score at least 89, writing section at least 22/IELTS: overall score at least 6.5, no individual score under 6.0; graduate: TOEFL: overall score at least 93, writing section at least 22/IELTS: overall score at least 7.0; 
    St. Mary’s University: undergraduate: language certificate; graduate: Toefl 80-100 bzw. IELTS 6.5-7 (depending on faculty); more information here
