Welcome to the Faculty of Geosciences/ Geography at Goethe-University, Frankfurt
Geosciences/ Geography
The Faculty of Geosciences and Geography offers a wide variety of study programs for both bachelor and master students. Interdisciplinary research within the faculty and in close cooperation with other departments in Germany and abroad is an outstanding feature of Geosciences at Goethe-University. The main research areas of our departments are the structure and the dynamics of the Earth’s interior and surface. A close look at the history of our planet, a global view of the evolution of landscapes and life forms and the analysis of habitats comprise essential parts of our scientific and educational work. The complex and versatile interactions and connections between the composition and the dynamics of the environment, life and the socio-economic evolution of mankind are a major aspect of geoscientific and geographical research.
The Faculty of Geosciences and Geography at Goethe-University comprises four departments with 36 chairs and over 2000 students. Since April 2007 three of these – the Department of Geosciences, the Department of Physical Geography and the Department for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences – have been located on Riedberg Campus within the new ‘Geozentrum’. Since March 2013 the Department of Human Geography has been located in the new PEG Building on Westend Campus.
