With its 745,000 inhabitants, Frankfurt am Main is a metropolis in miniature. The centre of the Rhine-Main region with again 2 million inhabitants is dynamic and has its finger on the pulse. The impressive skyline belies the fact that many districts that were once villages have only grown together over time. Many of these districts have retained their own character and traditions to this day.
This is also visible in the many cosy shopping streets that exist alongside Germany's highest-turnover shopping mile, the Zeil. In the evening, people meet in one of the many traditional Äbbelwoik pubs for a glass of wine and end the day on a convivial note. Frankfurt is an exceptionally green city. You don't have to go to the Taunus to enjoy nature. In addition to the largest city forest in Germany, Frankfurt has over 120 green spaces and parks.
Due to its geographical location, Frankfurt has always been a city with pronounced mobility. The north-south and east-west routes meet here by road, rail and also by air. The internationality associated with this is reflected in numerous trade fairs, or in the more than 200 international financial institutions that have their headquarters in Frankfurt and, last but not least, of course, in the 180 nations that live together peacefully here.
Our students also benefit from the excellent public transport infrastructure: The AStA has negotiated an unrivalled semester ticket that entitles you to travel from Weinheim to Marburg and from Wiesbaden / Mainz to Kassel.
44,000 companies, 464,000 jobs subject to social insurance contributions and approx. 300,000 daily commuters are key figures for a flourishing economy. Thanks to the dynamism and productivity of the location, Frankfurt am Main always has an unemployment rate below the national average, even in economically difficult times. The labour market also offers students many interesting job and internship opportunities.
In addition to the region's global thinking, local traditions come to the fore in a distinctive club life. Sports - the choice of sports is almost endless - can be practised in one of the approximately 450 sports clubs. With numerous indoor and outdoor swimming pools, the ice rink, golf courses and boathouses, the city of Frankfurt also offers the infrastructure needed for active leisure activities. This picture is rounded off by the zoo, which is well worth seeing, and the Palmengarten.
Frankfurt also has no need to hide in terms of culture. The opera house - winner of several "Opera House of the Year" awards - the Schaupielhaus and 20 other theatres offer an overwhelming cultural programme. Another attraction is the Museumsufer. With the Schirn Art Gallery, the Städel and the Museum of Modern Art, Frankfurt has rightly earned a reputation as a city of art.
In summary, Frankfurt am Main is a liveable and lovable city that exudes international flair, is a centre of business and offers good career prospects.
