​ ​Important information about the supervision of the master thesis

The Master's thesis can be issued or supervised by a professor, a doctoral member or a doctoral associate member of the Institute of Political Science.

At least one of the reviews must be written by a professor.

Persons who do not belong to Goethe University can also be appointed as second reviewers by the examination committee. This must be applied for to the examination committee.

The Master's thesis can be written at an institution outside Johann Wolfgang Goethe University with the approval of the chairperson of the responsible examination committee. In this case, the topic must be set in consultation with a member of the professorial group of the responsible subject. The external supervisor can be approved by the responsible examination board as a second examiner for the Master's thesis. This has to be applied for at the examination committee.

The following persons are authorized to conduct examinations for the MA program Comparative Democracy:
  • Professors
  • Doctoral research assistants who have been commissioned with the independent performance of teaching duties
  • Doctoral lecturers and lecturers for special tasks    
  • Private lecturers with a doctorate    
  • Associate professors   
  • Honorary professors
  • Emeritus professors
