Bertram Lang ist seit Juni 2021 Wissenschaftlicher Koordinator des IZO sowie Koordinator des Verbundprojekts Cultural Entrepreneurship and Digital Transformation in Africa and Asia (CEDITRAA). Zuvor war er als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Professur für Politikwissenschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Area Studies China/Ostasien (Prof. Heike Holbig) tätig.

In seinem Dissertationsprojekt beschäftigt er sich mit der Internationalisierung chinesischer Philanthropie aus der Perspektive transnationaler Legitimationsstrategien. Weitere akademische Schwerpunktthemen sind die EU-China-Beziehungen, Zivilgesellschaft und nachhaltige Handelspolitik, sowie Antikorruptionspolitik.

Bertram studierte Politikwissenschaft und Chinesisch an der Albert-Ludwigs-Unviersität Freiburg i.Br., am Institut d'Études Politiques d'Aix-en-Provence (Sciences Po), der Université Aix-Marseille und an der Nanjing University und spezialisierte sich am College of Europe in Brügge auf die Internationalen Beziehungen der Europäischen Union. Vor Beginn seiner Promotion war er am Mercator Institute for China Studies (Merics) in der angewandten Chinaforschung und europäischen Politikberatung tätig.
