Atmospheric Environmental Analytics

In the group of atmospheric environmental analysis, we focus on the chemical characterization of environmental samples such as particulate matter, precipitation samples and glacier ice cores. Using these samples, we study the sources, the atmospheric formation pathways, the sinks, and the historical trends of secondary organic and inorganic aerosols. We develop new analytical strategies for liquid chromatography / ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry, such as non-target analysis and data mining techniques to extract the essential information from the mass spectrometry data. The development of automated generation of molecular fingerprints from aerosol filter samples and in-situ mass spectrometry of transformation processes will improve our understanding of atmospheric particulate matter in our environment.
