Short profile

Psychology is a very broad discipline. Although it has an empirical and natural science focus, many aspects of the humanities and social sciences also feature. It deals with human behaviour and experience in all areas of life. The subject is internationally oriented and literature is mostly in English. Psychology additionally has links to other disciplines such as medicine, business administration, education and biology.

Application procedure

Please note: To apply for a place on the Psychology programme in the first subject-related semester you are obliged first of all to register on hochschulstart.de. Without an applicant ID number and an applicant authentication number (what are known in Germany as BID & BAN) you cannot apply!

Admission to the Psychology programme at Goethe University Frankfurt is subject to local restrictions (“numerus clausus”). 20 % of places are allocated according to waiting time and 80 % according to the average grade of applicants’ university entrance qualification. The time spent between attaining the university entrance qualification (generally German “Abitur” or equivalent) and applying for a place counts as waiting time (with the exception of time spent studying). An overview of the minimum entry grades in past years can be found here.

Please note that to enrol on this programme (also if you are changing subject or studying for a double degree) you are obliged to avail yourself of the study guidance services provided by Goethe University Frankfurt. An Online Study Guidance Assistant (OSA) is at your disposal for this purpose. Please use this support tool before you apply. It will give you an insight into the subject and the programme syllabus. At the end you will receive written confirmation that you have taken part which you should please submit together with your application documents. The OSA test can be found here. For further details please consult the FAQs.

Simply send your data to the University using the online form. Then print out and send the PDF sheet together with the requested documents by 15.07. to the Student Affairs Office of the Student Service Centre. Date of receipt counts (not date of posting).

After the necessary processing time, you will receive either a letter of acceptance or a letter of rejection. Please take note in this respect of the closing dates of the Foundation for University Admissions (Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung (hochschulstart.de)).

You can track the status of your application on www.meine-bewerbung.uni-frankfurt.de .
