Orientation for international first-semester students

Dear international first-semester students!

Welcome to Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. The university’s International Office would like to facilitate the start to your studies and help you progress smoothly towards success. To this end, we have developed several programmes for your orientation.

This is what the orientation programmes offer:

  • A first introduction to learning and working at a German university (“What is different here from at home?“).
  • Help in finding your way around university, both regarding location and content (“Where is lecture hall V? What exactly happens in a lecture?“).
  • First instructions about the structure of your studies and what is expected from you (“What do examination regulations say? How do I organise my undergraduate studies?“).
  • An overview of subject-specific induction sessions and counselling services at university (“When is the induction session for sociology and what I can learn in Professor X’s consultation hours?“).
  • Contact with students who are in the same situation (“Shall we go to this seminar together?“) and to institutions serving international students (“Who is in charge of what?“).
