Antonia Witt joined the Department as Research Associate in October 2014. She studied Political Science and African Studies at the University of Leipzig as well as African Peace and Conflict Studies at Bradford University, UK. After her graduation, Antonia worked as trainee in the Section for Peace and Security of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From 2011 until 2014 she was Research Associate in the Young Researchers’ Group „Changing Norms of Global Governance“, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), based at the Institute for Intercultural and International Studies of the University of Bremen.

From April until June 2014, as part of her doctoral research in Southern Africa, Antonia worked as a guest researcher at the Department of International Relations at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. In December 2015, Antonia submitted her PhD thesis Ordering by default: the power and politics of post-coup interventions in Africa at the University of Leipzig. In her thesis, Antonia analyses the AU’s post-coup intervention in Madagascar and shows how international efforts to re-establish ‘constitutional order’ after a coup reconfigure and re-legitimate power relations and orders.

For her dissertation, Antonia Witt received the Christiane-Rajewski-Award 2017 from the German Association for Peace and Conflict Studies.

Since February 2016, Antonia Witt is also working at the Peace Resarch Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) as part of the research department V 'Glocal Junctions'.
