Did you know that Alzheimer was discovered on Westend Campus, that the main building was built by the world‘s greatest chemical trust of its time and served as the headquarters of the US Army in Germany after World War II? The summer term starts with GU‘s Orientation Day for all new international researchers and doctoral candidates. The GWC together with the Goethe Research Academy for Early Researchers(GRADE) offer an indispensable introduction to GU‘s administrative structure and units.

Welcome to Goethe University!

We are very pleased that you have decided to stay at Goethe University and we hope that you will have a fruitful and enriching time in the vibrant commercial and financial metropolis of Frankfurt.





The Goethe Welcome Centre (GWC) is the central point of advice and services for international researchers at Goethe University:

  • international professors
  • international post-docs
  • international degree seeking doctoral students
  • international doctoral students with a GU employment contract 

In order to make your relocation preparations, your arrival and stay in Frankfurt as comfortable as possible, the GWC team is ready to support you with information, advice and targeted help regarding all important matters related to your stay in Frankfurt. The GWC cooperates closely with other service facilities at GU as well as the City of Frankfurt. Additionally the GWC regularily offers social and cultural events or excursions for you and your family.

In order to support you the best way possible, we would like to ask you first of all to fill out our online registration form. As soon as you have returned this completed form to the GWC we will email  you some initial information and we will send a small welcome package to the department hosting you.

In the following pages you will find a large amount of information about your stay in Frankfurt. Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
