Curriculum Vitae - Dr. Sebastian Schindler

Sebastian Schindler is a research associate in the working group ‘International Organisations’ at the Cluster of Excellence ‘Normative Orders’. His main research areas are theories of International Relations (IR), international organisations, and international political theory. He has published articles in International Theory, Millennium – Journal of International Studies, Journal of International Organization Studies, Leviathan, and Politische Vierteljahresschrift. In December 2016, he defended his PhD dissertation at Goethe University Frankfurt, receiving highest honors (“summa cum laude”). His essay “Man versus State: Contested Agency in the United Nations” was awarded Millennium’s Northedge Prize in 2014. Since 2016, he is speaker of the Young Researchers’ Group in the International Relations section of the German Political Science Association.

From 2013 to 2016, Sebastian Schindler worked as research associate at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF). For his PhD research, he received scholarships from the Gerda Henkel Foundation (2014-2016) and the German National Academic Foundation (2011-2013). He was a research associate in the project “International Dissidence” at Goethe University (2010), a visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota (2009-10) and an editorial assistant for ZIB, the German journal of International Relations (2005-08). Moreover, he worked as an intern at the German mission to the UN food organizations in Rome (2011), the French National Assembly in Paris (2008-09), and the UN World Food Programme in Swaziland (2008). From 2006-10, he was a volunteer and senior staff member of the National Model United Nations (NMUN) in New York.

Sebastian Schindler received his M.A. in Political Science, History and Philosophy from Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, in 2008 (“with distinction”). In 2005-06, he was a graduate exchange student at the Paris Political Science Institute “Sciences Po”. He is fluent in German, English and French, and speaks some Italian and Spanish.
